Sad news: Galt Wilson, Q.C. passed away on January 31, 2012. A celebration of Galt's life will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, February 9th at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard Street, Vancourver. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the BC Alzheimer's Society

When I came to British Columbia in 1979, it was to practice law in partnership with Galt and Robert Bauman, now the Chief Justice of the BC Supreme Court. Galt was known as the "Dean of Municipal Law" in BC and very generously shared with me his extensive knowledge of this province's municipal law and local government institutions. We continued to practice municipal law together at Harman, Wilson & Company, a predecessor of Crease Harman, the firm I am now connected with, and the firm we founded in 1988 - Wilson, Staples, McDannold & Marley - an exclusively local government law practice, and its successors.

When Galt retired in the 1990's, he left a legacy of service to local government that is reflected in the honour bestowed on him by the Local Government Management Association - Life Member. I believe his is the only life membership given to a person who was not an employee of a local government, an executive director of LGMA or a provincial government official.
